Abstract:

The oldest Synodikon of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Monastery of 1575 is an important source of genealogical information. The Synodikon records make it possible to establish the approximate dates of deaths of the persons commemorated in it, their family and social ties. The synodic reveals data on the biographies of famous scribes of the 16th century, including Fyodor Kuritsyn, Efrem Trebes, Fyodor Karpov, Adrian Angelov, priest Sylvester, Andrei (Afanasii), Ivan Vorontsov, Boris Godunov. In addition to finding out the dates of the repose of the scribes themselves or members of their families, the synodical data helped to correct the view of such problems as the disgrace of Fyodor Kuritsyn, the reason for the inhibition of the church career of priest Sylvester (who never became either the archpriest of the Annunciation Cathedral of Moscow or the confessor of tsar Ivan IV), and the mystery of the death of Sylvester and his son Anfim.
