Abstract:

The article and publication of the text introduces a typical short chronicler — a literary form that became very popular in Russia in the 17th century. The model is the Chronicle by Choice of a lengthy edition in the cell handwritten code of the famous scribe and publicist, cellarer of the Trinity-Sergius Monastery Simon Azaryin. Like many others, this list was continued by original articles on contemporary scribes events, in this case the 1650s–1660s. A thorough codicological study of the entire manuscript and of the Chronicler itself, comparing it with another cell handwritten code of Simon, which was written at the same time, allows very precise dating of the stages of work on the manuscript and to establish, that the chronicle was copied from the protographer, and then continued by the staff of the cellarer. The author shows what passions raged on the pages of the private cell code, and introduces this type of codes. he study helps to understand what thoughts, ideas and concepts were behind the laconic chronicle articles, which were never written “without anger and passion.” The choice of facts, their arrangement and the vivid emotional content of a number of articles made the short chronicler the same publicistic work as the famous author’s works of Azaryin. But the appearance of the objectivity of the chronicle form made such monuments especially convincing. The reader of the text can check this conclusion for himself.
