Аннотация
В русской медиевистике существуют два взаимоисключающих взгляда на последние годы жизни свт. Кирилла Туровского. Первый из них объясняет участие Туровскго еп. Лаврентия в поставлении игумена Киево-Печерского монастыря Василия так, что свт. Кирилл к этому времени оставил кафедру и принял постриг в великую схиму. Согласно второму взгляду ко времени поставления архим. Василия свт. Кирилла уже не было в живых. В данной статье получают развитие известные аргументы в пользу первого взгляда, а также приводятся новые свидетельства. Автор статьи поддерживает мнение, что свт. Кирилл до середины 1183 г. ушел с Туровской кафедры и принял великую схиму, а также, возможно, удалился в затвор, из которого был прежде призван к архиерейскому служению.
