The article examines the last years of life and literary work of St. Tirill of Turov: old hypotheses and new data. There are two mutually exclusive views on the last years of St. Kirill Turovsky’s life in Russian medieval studies. The first of them explains the participation of Turov bishop Lawrence in the ordination of abbot of Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery Vasily so that St. Kirill by this time had left the department and was tonsured into the great schema. According to the second view, by the time of ordination of abbot Vasily St. Kirill was no longer alive. The article develops well-known arguments in favor of the first view, and also provides new evidence. The author of the article supports the opinion that before the middle of 1183 St. Kirill left the episcopal service and accepted the great schema, and also, possibly, retired into seclusion, from which he was previously called to hierarchical ministry.
