Abstract: The paper surveys life and literary activity of Terence, archpriest of Annunciation cathedral in Moscow Kremlin. Upon confronting ideas, developed in three surviving texts by protopope, which met mixed assessments of researchers – with the works of contemporaries on Times of troubles we can conclude: protopope Terence was neither frightened supplicant nor opportunist, but one of the gifted writers and figures of the Times of troubles that managed to foresee not only the fatal end of False Dmitry I, but also religious and symbolic interpretation  of Impostor`s killing in Russian sources on Times of troubles. Being an initiator of a new plot variation of publicist visions, as a matter of fact, protopope was able to foresee in the times of “commotions” spiritual and moral needs of the people in repentance, purification and peace as the only way out of the tragic circumstances of the times yet to be realized in 1606.
